The Operating system (OS) is the master control program that provides an interface for a user to communicate with the computer.
• It manages hardware devices
• Manages and maintains disk file systems
• Supports application programs
How does the OS interact the user?
• The OS provides you with the tools or commands, that enable you to interact with the computer.
• When you issue a command the OS translates it into code that the machine can understand and use.
• The OS ensures that the results of your actions are displayed on screen, printed etc.
