Chassis

  • The computer system is always encased in an enclosure known as the Chassis.
    The chassis are made usually from steel, aluminum and/or plastic.
  • in various sizes with enough space to place the components.
  • The most common chassis are divided in to the types, Tower and Flatbed (Desktop).

Form factors are the standards in manufacturing motherboards and chassis.
Form factors imply;

  • The dimension of the motherboard where the screw holes, CPU, RAM, Input/Otput connectors and expansion slots to be located.
  • The type of power connectors.

Chassis form factors are developed according to their specific shape of the chassis. The shape varies according to the motherboard form factors. The type of motherboard it supports can be used to refer to the chassis, but there are some exceptions. Hence, a form factor for chassis has been developed according to their specific shape.

The popular form factor is ATX

The tower chassis can be divided into;

  • mini-tower
  • mid-sized tower
  • full-size tower
  • flatbed chassis
  • slim desktop
