In this video, Brian discusses how he gets his students to make L and R when they are paired with the vowels /i/ and /u/. Having the students make their tongues go back to the /u/ and forward to the /i/ will help them understand the movements sometimes required. The nonsense words /liru/ and /luri/ are demonstrated. Other words that can be helpful for understanding these concepts are rural, lull, little, really, leery. In class, the front and back L (like in LITTLE) are discussed and practiced, as well as back L differences in English dialects.
