Impersonal pronouns අපුද්ගල සර්වනාම
 

In many some sentences, you will find the word "it" or the word "there" in the subject position. These are usually "impersonal" sentences, there is no natural subject.


වාක්‍යයක ස්වාභාවික කතෘ කෙනෙක් නොමැති කල  අපුද්ගල සර්වනාම යෙදේ.

Identifying something
යමක් හඳුනාගැනීම

"Who is it?"
"It's me."
"What is it?"
"It's a cat."

Talking about time
කාලය ගැන කථා කිරීම

"What time is it?"
"It's five o'clock."
"What day is it?"
"It's Thursday."

Talking about distance
දුර ගැන කතා කිරීම

"How far is it to Toronto?"
"It's 4000 kilometers."

Impersonal "there" is used to say that something exists in a particular place:


යමක් යම් තැනක තිබෙන බව පැවසීම










Singular
There is a book on the table.

Plural
There are three men in the car.
