Multiple web pages in a common domain name called a website. Website content can largely be provided by the publisher. Some webs allow users to contribute content . Websites are used for education, entertainment, politics, news and commercial purposes.

HTTP
The Hypertext Transfer Protocol is an application protocol for distributed, collaborative, hypermedia information systems. HTTP is the foundation of data communication for the World Wide Web. Hypertext is structured text that uses logical links (hyperlinks) between nodes containing text.

Hyper media
Hypermedia is a medium of information which includes graphics, audio, video, plain text and hyperlinks.

Technological Perspective
Web technologies are building blocks of a LAN, MAN or a WAN (Internet). They provides a platform for communication among different users and devices on a computer network. Web teechnologies provide messaging, access to information and application for manage digital activities. Web mechanism ensure moving a message from the sender to the recipient, receiver to retrieve the message, send feedback, acknowledge reception or failure of communication.

A web browser is a software application for retrieving, presenting, and traversing information resources on the World Wide Web, using their URLs. Hyperlinks (Links to URLs) enable users easily to navigate their browsers to related resources. Example . Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, MS Internet Explorer

An email to sent to the group sent to all members of the group. A reply to the mail also sent to whole group. Ex. Sinhala Unicode Group (Google Groups, Yahoo Groups)

Portals - Web sites with information on specific or common area. News, Entertainment , Commerce.

Blogs - A web journal written by a user expressing ideas. Used for social activism.

World Wide Web Consortium (W3C)

W3C is the main international standards organization for the World Wide Web.
Founded by Tim Berners-Lee,the consortium is made up of member organizations which maintain full-time staff for the purpose of working together in the development of standards for the World Wide Web.
The W3C also engages in education and outreach, develops software, and serves as an open forum for discussion about the Web.
